In my blog entry entitled “Switched at Birth” Addresses Birthfather Rights, I shared that ABC Family’s Switched at Birth had a storyline going about birthfather rights. Since that episode, Angelo (played by Gilles Marini) found his birth daughter and won custody of her after verifying that he was, in fact, the child’s birth father through a DNA test.
Angelo had a difficult time being a single father. While he clearly loved his baby daughter, he came to realize that he was unable to give his daughter the life that he wanted for her. In the season finale, he called the former adoptive parents and asked if they would still like to adopt his daughter with an open adoption arrangement.
How often does it happen that a failed adoption turns into a successful one after all? I don’t know the statistics, but I do personally know one adoptive family that has a similar story.
